Gangs, Gangsters, and Ganglands: Policy Insights from a Global Comparative Project
CECID-GANGS project roundtable
This joint CECID-GANGS project event will report on and consider the policy recommendations of the European Research Council-funded project “Gangs, Gangsters, and Ganglands: Towards a Global Comparative Ethnography”, or GANGS project. Focused on three primary case studies, namely Nicaragua, South Africa, and France, with secondary case studies in Spain and Italy, and also involving the collection of 29 gang member life histories from 23 countries around the world, this project brought together 49 researchers who contributed a range of studies on gang dynamics, gangster trajectories, and gangland politics. Based in the Centre on Conflict, Development, and Peacebuilding (CCDP) at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, in Geneva, Switzerland, the project ran from January 2019 to June 2024.
